The Grain Train – BNSF 6956

IMG_0917

There is a hiking/biking/running/walking trail along the railroad tracks and I rode my bike up here hoping to get some photos of the trains as they were close to the trail. I lucked out, but it was a rushed job to get off the bike, get the camera out, and get it ready. As a result, these aren’t the greatest photos.

The lead locomotive is a GE ES44C4, which as far as I can tell, is exactly like a GE ES44AC where appearance is concerned. The difference lies in that the center axel of each truck doesn’t have a traction motor; they’re idler axels.

I don’t actually know what was being transported in these covered hoppers. It could have been sand, they could’ve been empty. Looking up the railway mark only tells me that they are owned by a leasing company. But “The Grain Train” rhymes. So… That’s what it is.
