Shadow Puppet

Sometimes our daughter accompanies me on my various train photo hunts. We talk a lot during these excursions, but it’s not really her thing to sit and wait for train traffic to pass us by. One evening close to sunset, she saw her shadow down on the tracks and ballast, and started making poses to amuse herself.

Those are the ones I grew up around, too. I think down there, they still are those ones.

I hadn’t realized how used to these I’d become until recently: I went railfanning out in Kansas and they have the gritty, oily wooden ones still, as well.

The concrete ties make for good contrasting elements with the ground, since they’re cleaner. I guess I’m a little bit spoiled! 😊
