Afternoon of 4 July, 2016 in Inman, Kansas. We’d sat in the car on the end of a lane for about an hour, hoping some rail traffic would pass by on the mainline not far away from us. It wasn’t looking too promising, so we started back to McPherson. As we were crossing the tracks to get back to the highway, I saw lights of a train a few miles away down the track. I guess that’s one nice thing about the super-straight tracks in Kansas.
I pulled off the side of the road, and grabbed the camera. Union Pacific 8632 led the consist (a trio of EMD SD70ACes), the other two were Ferromex engines (4087, and 4063… and you can see I didn’t get good pictures of them).
Headed toward McPherson as well, I saw it disappear under the bridge near the refinery in Mac, but we never did catch it up.
