Empty Coal Train — BNSF 9297

BNSF 9297, an EMD SD70ACe, pulls an empty unit coal train for Xcel Energy north through Colorado Springs. I was standing on the south side of Monument Valley Park; and it was almost mid-day — the shadows are pretty harsh, but the color of the engine stands out really well against the background.

I got the summit of Pikes Peak in this shot of the Xcel Energy hopper; and you can perhaps tell there were a few clouds playing havoc with the lighting. Never a dull moment for Colorado Springs photographers!

The distributed power units (DPUs) provided a treat: Citirail’s CREX 1318, a GE ES44AC. I really like the Citirail color scheme and they provide a little variety.

BNSF 9267, another EMD SD70ACe, has been on the blog before, also pulling duty as a DPU.

Thanks. We’ve been wondering how you’ve been doing, too. Hope all’s well in your world — I’m sure it’s hectic, so should I add “in spite of that”? 🙂
