Cheyenne Mountain Zoo — More Lions

On our way out of the zoo, we had to take another swing by the lion enclosure. So much behavior that made me think of Rose; seeing the comparisons between them really is interesting, especially watching him groom himself.

He shook his head, an action that’s impossible to capture in a photo.

One of the male cubs, keeping an eye on things from his high perch.

Or, perhaps not.

Finally… The intensity in her stare is fascinating, almost hypnotic.

Sweet jeebus that’s a frightening shot! Just look at the teeth on that thing! This shot actually makes me think of the transformation sequence in “An American Werewolf in London”, which had a very similar side shot. Creepy, man, just creepy (but in a good way).

Haha… I love shots like this one. I wish the reflections weren’t so prominent; the number of photos that are ruined because reflections of people in the glass… But I guess that makes the good ones even more satisfying.

It’s a great shot, man. As I have said before, I don’t care much for cats, but you never really understand the size and the muscle of the big cats until you are right next to them. They definitely aren’t your little housecat, and they are amazing creatures. Now you make me think I need to head down to the zoo this year!
