Going To Brag A Little Bit

Some of you know I’ve been running for about a year. A couple of weeks ago, I ran my first 5K. There was an Everybody-Gets-A-Trophy Finisher medal, which was nice. But I was also the third in my age group, which netted this… I think it’s a coaster, and what looks like a zipper pull. Given these were the result of where I finished in the pack, I thought they were cooler than the Finisher medal.

If you’re interested in my accountability, I blog my runs over on The Fat Guy Running Blog.

Congrats, Matt! I didn’t know. That is quite an accomplishment first time around. How exciting for you.

    Awesome!

I’m not one for running at my age/weight/medical issues, but that doesn’t mean I still wouldn’t like to run some events. My wife has participated in a couple of Disney half marathons and they always look fun (at least the Star Wars/Marvel runs look cool). Maybe I’ll meet you there some day if I can get off my butt, drop some weight and get back into the race!

Haha.. thanks! It’s not official, but I’m considering the half next year instead of the 5K.

You can drop the weight and get back into the race if you want to. My running blog is called “the fat guy running blog” for a reason! πŸ™‚

This fat guy has two bad knees that feel like they have been assaulted with baseball bats after a couple of miles. Hoping some weight loss will fix that. At my lowest weight in the past 10 years I was able to do 10 mile runs, but that was a few years back. Not sure if I can do that again, but need to lose the weight to find out!

I’ve had issues with my legs in the past too. Shoes and form are the key. So far, my longest run has been just shy of 6 miles.

Thanks, Cat. I’m pleased, don’t get me wrong; but I just guessed the other guys in my age group were running the marathon or the half. πŸ™‚ It’s easier when the competition is running harder events! (:D)
